S. I. Ozhegov’s Dictionary, since its first edition in 1949, has been appearing in successive editions from the Soviet times to recent post-Soviet reality. Since 1992 it is co-authored by N. Y. Shvedova. The article compares several entries related to social and political affairs, collected from the principal editions of the Dictionary. The analyzed entries include the following lexemes: democracy, capitalism, communism, socialism, party, trade union. The main goal of the article is to show the evolution of the respective entries and to characterize the crucial differences between yarious editions.
