A new form of protecting historical monuments, whose patron is the Council of Europe, is to enliven historical objects by situating within them the realisation of contemporary designs in the domain of culture and art. Such centres become privileged sites for contacts and cooperation between the state, the local community, the artistic milieu, and entrepreneurs. Italy has two such projects, Poland can boast of four, France will soon possess twenty while Great Britain has none. The Centre for Information and Documentation at the Modern Art Centre in Ujazdowski Castle in Warsaw accentuates the need for creating successive centres of contemporary culture located in historical objects.
