This paper discusses the processes steering the Holocaustconsciousness on the Internet, referring to selected public/official and private web pages. Drawing upon the debate of materiality and physical presence on the Web, the author deals with a particular issue of the Holocaust testimony, which focuses on the physicalness of a text/author as proof of an experience. The discourse of the Holocaust on the Internet illustrates in an exemplary way the transformation of the genuine Holocaustexperience itself from the proper signifie into a significant conveyed to any other (traumatic) experience. In the author’s opinion this development, which, to a less significant degree is evident as well in the domain of literature and the public discourse, is most strikingly obvious on the Internet, which thus has become a perfect field of observation for imminent shifts in the Holocaust discourse.
