The political change of 1990 was followed by a noticeable revival of studies into the his-tory of deportations of Poles to Siberia in the 19th and 20th centuries. Interest in the topic historians working there at the Pedagogical University and the Stolypin Agrarian University. can be found in academic centres across Siberia. These undoubtedly include Omsk and the Recently, two monographs devoted to Polish exiles in the late 18th and the 19th century have been published in Omsk. The one by Svetlana A. Mulina, published in 2012, deals with the fate of Poles exiled to Western Siberia after the January Uprising. The author has studied the stories of over 4,000 exiles. She devotes most attention to the issue of the Poles’ adaptation. According to the Omsk scholar, those who established the closest ties with the indigenous Siberian population were people engaging in economic activity, simply because they had contacts with the local communities almost every day. The second book is a result of a collaboration between A. Mulina and Anna A. Krikh. They have prepared biographical notes on 1201 Poles exiled to Western Siberia during the period of the Bar Confederation and the Kościuszko Uprising, and then Napoleonic wars. The dictionary is another important step in exploring the history of Polish exiles in Siberia.
