In the 18th century, Count Albert Hodic (Joseph Albert Hodic) was a prominent figure in the cultural and political life of Silesia (in the contemporary geographical sense of the term). He rendered considerable service in propagating the ideas of the Enlightment, he was also an enthusiast of the Rococo style. He took on many initiatives aimed at stimulating the cultural life of Silesia. He ordered the castle in Silesian Ru-doltice, which he inherited from his father in 1741, to be rebuilt in the Baroque style and then turned it into a center of art and music. Many distinguished representatives of Moravian Enlightment visited the center that also housed a well supplied library and a theatre group that co-operated with Jánský Vrch. The theatre was heavily influenced by the Italian S.I. Pintus, a former Jesuit, member of the Academy of Sciences in Siena and, most of all, a humanist. The present article is concerned with the literary and cul-tural activities of the Count. It also aims at showing how this extraordinary character was portrayed in the works of German and Czech writers and biographers.

Hrabia Albert Hodic (Joseph Albert Hoditz) należał w XVIII wieku do ważnych postaci w kulturze i polityce Śląska. Zasłużył się krzewieniem idei oświecenia, był entuzjastą stylu rokokowego. Podejmował wiele inicjatyw, które ożywiły ruch kul¬turalny na Śląsku. Zamek w Śląskich Rudolticach, odziedziczony w 1741 r. po ojcu, hrabim Karolu Józefie z Hodic i Olbramic, przebudował w stylu barokowym i stworzył w nim ośrodek malarstwa, muzyki. Bywali w nim wybitni przedstawiciele morawskiego oświecenia. Znajdowała się tu bogato zaopatrzona biblioteka. Na zamku działał również teatr, będący w bliskich stosunkach z Jánským Vrchem [niem. Johannisbergiem]. Na teatr bezpośredni wpływ wywierał Włoch z wykształcenia, humanista, poeta ks. S.I. Pintus, były jezuita, członek Akademii Nauk w Sienie. Autor w swoim przy¬czynku zajmuje się jednak literacko-historycznym kontekstem działalności hrabiego oraz odzwierciedleniem jego niezwyklej i oryginalnej postaci w dziełach niemieckich i czeskich biografów i pisarzy.
