Celem niniejszego artykułu jest analiza procesów instytucjonalizacji metropolii w Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej. Nie ulega bowiem wątpliwości, iż nawet wobec braku stosownych regulacji ustawowych do takich procesów dochodzi – są one bowiem spontaniczne i samorzutne, zachodzące asymetrycznie w różnych częściach kraju, podyktowane pragmaty- zmem czy też wolą usprawnienia procesów wykonywania zadań publicznych i pozyskiwania dodatkowych środków finansowych na rozwój społeczności lokalnych.

The purpose of this article is to analyse the processes of institutionalisation of the metropolis in the Republic of Poland. There is no doubt that even in the absence of appropriate statutory regulations, such processes occur - they are spontaneous and spontaneous, taking place asymmetrically in different parts of the country, dictated by pragmatism or the will to improve the processes of performing public tasks and obtaining additional funds for the development of local communities.
