W artykule opisuję współczesne wykorzystanie idei miasta-ogrodu w celach promocyjnych, kulturalnych i politycznych na przykładzie dzielnicy Włochy m. st. Warszawy. Studium przypadku służy do pokazania narracyjnego budowania tożsamości miejsca oraz oswajania przestrzeni poprzez praktyki oznaczania granic (ustawianie tablic Miasto-ogród Włochy). Oś analizy stanowi projekt „Miasto Ogród Włochy” zapoczątkowany przez aktywnych mieszkańców i realizowany we współpracy z Urzędem Dzielnicy. Te działania traktuję jako zalążki miejskości, puste “przestrzenie”. Idea miasta-ogrodu wyznacza określony sposób patrzenia na dzielnicę, zarówno w praktykach poruszania się (dryfowania) po mieście, jak i bycia turystą. W obu przypadkach wiąże się z wytwarzaniem kultury. W pracy przedstawiam także koncepcję Ebenezera Howarda oraz brytyjskie realizacje miast-ogrodów. Następnie zajmuję się Włochami z przeszłości, by na koniec przejść do teraźniejszych problemów i sporów wokół koncepcji autora „Garden Cities of To-Morrow”, a także pokazać możliwe kierunki rozwoju.

In this paper I am describing a contemporary using of garden-city idea for promotional, cultural and political aims in a case study of one of the Warsaw district – Włochy. This case study is used to show the narrative way of building the identity of a place and marking the space through the practice of boundaries determination (setting of the Garden-city boards). The axis of analysis is the project "Włochy Garden City" which was started by the active inhabitans and implemented in cooperation with the District Authority. This activity I treat as the seeds of urbanity, empty " spaces ". The idea of garden-city designates a certain way of seeing the district both in moving throught the city (drift) as well as being a tourist. Both cases involve creating culture. In this paper I present also the concept of Ebenezer Howard and the British garden-city realizations. Then I write about Włochy from the past and in the end I concentrate about contemporary issues and disputes about the concept of author of "Garden Cities of To- Morrow" and the possible way of development.
