The article presents the main differences between the older generations and those socialized in the digital world, taking as the starting point Marc Prensky’s categories of digital natives and digital immigrants. The differences are depicted in three fields – the construction of self, the sphere of social relations, and the cognitive sphere. The juxtaposition of the characteristics of digital natives and the offer of the transmissive school shows its cultural inadequacy when confronting contemporary pupils’ features and socio-cognitive preferences.
