The paper aims to analyse the regional diversity of wages and their determinants in industry, construction and service sector in Poland throughout 1995-2007. Among explanatory variables, both long-term and short-term determinants of wages were considered. In accordance with the neoclassical theory and its modifications it was assumed that one of the more important wage determinants is the level of labour productivity. Moreover, using the efficiency wage models it is assumed that an important determinant of the wage level is the situation in the labour market (measured by unemployment rate on the regional labour market). The statistical analyses conducted in this paper showed that both factors significantly affect the wage level. However, it should be underlined that they did not exert its influence on the value of the explained variable to the same extent. In the industrial and service sectors, the factor which to a larger degree determines the wage level in the regional labour market is the level of labour productivity. Voivodships in which labour productivity was at a high/low level (in relation to the remaining regions) were characterised by a high/low wage level in these sectors. In the construction sector the wage level in the regional labour market is to a larger extent dependent on the situation in the labour market. In voivodships in which the unemployment rate was maintaining at a relatively low/high level, wages in the construction sector were high /low. (original abstract)
