Abstracts

Porównywanie danych o migracjach wewnętrznych i międzynarodowych pomiędzy poszczególnymi państwami Europy Zachodniej napotyka na problemy spowodowane dużym zróżnicowaniem metod pozyskiwania informacji statystycznej na ten temat. Dane te w krajach Europy Zachodniej są najczęściej gromadzone w rejestrach ludności oraz rejestrach administracyjnych. Spisy są także dość powszechnym narzędziem pozyskiwania danych, a w niektórych krajach regularne badania ankietowe uzupełniają informacje pozyskane z innych źródeł. Każda z tych metod ma wady i zalety. Jedyną, jak dotąd, próbę harmonizacji definicji migracji i migranta na skalę światową podjęła Komisja Statystyczna ONZ, lecz poza W. Brytanią żadne inne państwo Europy Zachodniej tych definicji nie stosuje. Można mieć nadzieję, że zmierzający do tego samego celu projekt opracowywany przez Unię Europejską zakończy się sukcesem, lecz dopóki to nie nastąpi, dopóty badania dotyczące migracji będą musiały opierać się na obarczonych znaczącymi błędami szacunkach wielkości przepływów ludności.

Large differentiation of methods of migration data collection in Western European countries results in significant problems with comparison of both internal and international migration data between countries. Definitions of migrant and migration are not harmonised, thus statistical data of different countries reflect also these differences and lower reliability of research based on these data. The only trial of harmonising definitions of migration and migrant has been undertaken by UN Statistical Commission, but it has not been implemented in all but UK Western European countries yet. We may hope that European Union project on harmonising methods and definitions, which is being carried out, will be more successful, but at present migration research must be based on rough estimates.
