Inflow of direct foreign investment (DPI) to Poland is an important element of economic transformation. In the situation of deficiency of domestic capital resources, this element is a supplement of domestic resources and impacts on speed up of economic development growth. In this context, a level of disproportion of investment distribution in a regional scale is an essential problem. Conducted by taxonomic methods (synthetic variables analysis, Ward's method, taxonomic pattern development method) analyses of regional distribution of DPI localisation in years 1998—2003 proved the intensification of diversification on that reason. The most attractive investment regions of Poland are the following voivodships: Mazowieckie, Śląskie, Dolnośląskie, Wielkopolskie and others regions located along the Polish western border. However investors avoid the eastern regions of Poland (voivodship: Lubelskie, Podlaskie, Warmińsko-Mazurskie) and the Świętokrzyskie voivodship. Through inflow of DPI is important and essential for economic development in scale of the State it adds to the intensification of disproportion in economic development in regional scale.
