The aim of this article is to evaluate the potential of the Polish health care system in the context of health needs of modern society. Analysis of data shows that the development of the Polish health care system, although dynamic, still does not meet the need for specialist care. Therefore, urgent action is required to solve the problem, especially in view of the fact that the number of patients suffering from cancer, infectious diseases and mental disorders is constantly increasing.
