Reproductive health and rights became political issues in new Poland. The change of law, limiting access to abortion to few exceptions resulted in fact in total prohibition of abortion. This change was accompanied by transformation of public discourse: abortion means homicide nowadays, and pro-choice orientation is considered as criminal. After very intense dispute around new law, abortion, contraception and sexual education disappeared from the public discourse. Recently the issues reappeared, but as appropriated by the groups opposing accession to European Union. They use language manipulations, as putting contraception, abortion, euthanasia together with “killing” ore even “murder”, and presenting EU as “death civilisation”. Reproductive rights are discussed in political terms, by political actors, and women themselves are excluded from that discourse.
