Most technology-based firms are not focused on the traditional growth, meaning the creation of new jobs and increasing employment. They tend to profitability, achieved through exploitation of the competitive advantages build on flexible specialization. Therefore their main strategies focus on finding niches, in this case technological niches, which are the domain of action. As part of these companies may specialize in transforming the scientific knowledge into a basic technol- ogy and/or into an application specific technologies. Hence the goal of this article is to present and discuss selected determinants of the development of technology-based firms, especially those that determine their future success on the market.
