W artykule omówiono rolę informacji w systemie bezpieczeństwa państwa i problematykę związaną z ochroną tajemnicy. Służby ochrony państwa w systemie ochrony informacji niejawnych – będącym jednym z ogniw systemu bezpieczeństwa państwa – pełnią kluczową rolę. Przepisy ustawy o ochronie informacji niejawnych mają za zadanie chronić informacje stanowiące tajemnicę państwową i służbową. Ustawa ta od momentu jej wprowadzenia była przedmiotem wielu przedsięwzięć nowelizacyjnych, mających na celu zbudowanie jak najbardziej nowoczesnego i sprawnego systemu ochrony informacji. Ogromne znaczenie w tej dziedzinie ma współpraca w ramach dwustronnych umów pomiędzy państwami będącymi członkami NATO i Unii Europejskiej, której celem jest wzajemna ochrona informacji niejawnych. Krajowe przepisy prawne dotyczące ochrony informacji niejawnych mieszczą się w standardach europejskich, wymagają jednak uporządkowania legislacyjnego.

The article discusses the role of information in the system of state security, and questions related to the protection of secrets. State security services play a key role in the system of protecting confidential information, being one of the links in the system of state security. The stipulations of the Act on the Protection of Confidential Information to protect information that is state and official secret. From the moment of its introduction, the Act was the subject of numerous amendments aimed at the construction of the most modern and efficient system of information protection. Of great importance in the field is cooperation on the power of bilateral agreements between member states of NATO and European Union, whose objective is the mutual protection of confidential information. The national legislation concerning the protection of confidential information meets European standards, yet requires ordering.
