Autor podejmuje próbę opisania współczesnej walki zbrojnej i jej miejsca w relacjach cywilizacyjnych, koncentrując się na tym, przez kogo i w jakiego rodzaju wojnach jest ona prowadzona. Wyjaśnia zależności między pojęciami konfliktu i wojny, analizuje reakcje państw demokratycznych na konflikty zbrojne. Zastanawia się nad efektami demokratyzacji przemocy oraz asymetrią wojny.

The article attempts to describe contemporary armed combat and its place within contemporary inter-civilisation relations, focusing on who by and in what type of wars armed combat is conducted. Having explained the dependencies between the notions of conflict and war, and analyses the reactions of democratic states to armed conflict, it further considers the effects of democratisation of violence and asymmetry of war.
