Konflikty w pierwszej dekadzie XXI wieku stały się wydarzeniami medialnymi, a sposób relacji kreuje w dużej mierze ich obraz w oczach społeczności międzynarodowej. Zaangażowanie mediów stworzyło sytuację, w której informacja staje się orężem oddziaływania, mającym istotny wpływ na przebieg samego konfl iktu i jego obraz. Uznano, że nowa forma informowania o konfl iktach stanie się istotnym ogranicznikiem sposobu prowadzenia działań militarnych. Okazało się jednak, że zmiana polityki informacyjnej nie stanowi dla armii kraju liberalnej demokracji tak wielkiego zagrożenia, jak się początkowo spodziewano. Nawet w warunkach wszechobecności mediów nadających w systemie ciągłym możliwe jest utrzymanie poparcia społecznego dla prowadzonych działań, z jednoczesnym zachowaniem zasad bezpieczeństwa operacji. Ostrożność i nieufność w tej kwestii oznacza najczęściej oddanie inicjatywy informacyjnej w ręce przeciwnika i utratę kontroli nad podejmowaną przez media tematyką.

The conflicts in the fi rst decade of the 21 century have become media events and the way of their reporting largely creates their picture in the eyes of the international community. The involvement of media has created a situation, where information becomes a weapon of infl uence having a crucial eff ect on the course of the very confl ict and its picture. It was assumed that a new form of informing about confl icts will become an essential limiting factor of the way of conducting military activities. However, it turned out that the change of information policy does not constitute such a big threat for the army of a liberal democracy as it had been expected. Even in the circumstances of ever-present media broadcasting continuously it is possible to maintain social support for the conducted actions and obey the safety rules of an operation. Being careful and distrustful in this matter very often means handing over the information initiative to the opponent and losing the control over the topic of the media coverage.
