The research on the sense of life quality among the handicapped people, conducted in Poland throughout twenty years, shows that there is an increasing change in the way of thinking about the disabled, both by themselves and by fully fit people. The paper gives a short theoretical presentation indicating a multitude of theoretical models, as well as own research. On the basis of quantitative and qualitative analysis of the achieved results of the research, the structure of life quality evaluation of mentally handicapped young people is described and compared with the group of fully fit youth.
