Przedmiotem rozważań są poglądy i opinie na temat: systemu awansu stosowanego w uczelniach, niektórych rozwiązań ustawowych regulujących przebieg kariery akademickiej, wysokości wynagrodzeń pracowników naukowych w zależności od zajmowanego stanowiska, roli uczelni w promowaniu kadr naukowych oraz roli instytucji pozauczelnianych w procesie awansu pracowników naukowo-dydaktycznych i naukowych. Zagadnienia te omówiono na tle pozycji respondentów w hierarchii akademickiej. W artykule wykorzystano niektóre wyniki badań realizowanych - na zlecenie Prezydium Rady Głównej Szkolnictwa Wyższego - przez Centrum Badań Polityki Naukowej i Szkolnictwa Wyższego Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego. Zaprezentowano głównie wyniki weryfikujące następującą hipotezę: pozycja w hierarchii akademickiej ma wpływ na ocenę systemu awansowania stosowanego w uczelniach oraz jest zmienną sprzyjającą zróżnicowaniu propozycji i postulatów dotyczących tego systemu.

The paper focuses on opinions and outlooks concerning the promotion system used at the higher education institutions, the selected legal Solutions regulating the academic career, remuneration of teaching and research staff regarding their position, the role of the higher education institutions in staff promotion and the role of external institution in promotion of teaching, and research staff, and researchers. The above issues are discussed against a background of the respondents’ position in the academic hierarchy. The paper utilized selected results of the study requested by The Presidium of the Council of Higher Education at the Centre for Science Policy and Higher Education at the University of Warsaw. First of all, results verifying the assumption that: position in the academic hierarchy influences judgements regarding the promotion system at higher education institutions and fosters the differentiation of proposals and postulates relating to the system, are discussed.
