The author recalls the prophetic facts recorded in the more than 30-year history of the Droga Association, founded in Białystok by the charismatic Fr. Edward Konkol from the Society of the Divine Word Missionaries (SVD). This tall man with a booming voice gained the name of a “priest-institution”, and his Association – the most recognizable brand of Podlasie. An extended interview with Fr. Konkol and the memories of close associates of the Founder of the Association constitute the “database” of this text – but they do not exhaust the rich history of the Białystok institution. At the beginning of the “way” there was a meeting of Fr. Edward with a homeless man in a Warsaw sewer, then: Bialystok dens, detox in a vacant lot, Our Home, ETAP Centre, House of Return, Reconstruction of the Family, Center in Jastarnia. With the help of faithful associates, Fr. Konkol initiated a multifaceted program of therapeutic and spiritual help for homeless, addicted and children from poor families. On December 12, the first anniversary of Fr. Edward Konkol’s death passed – his opus vitæ continues.

Autor przypomina profetyczne fakty zapisane w ponad 30-letniej historii Stowarzyszenia Droga, założonego w Białymstoku przez charyzmatycznego ks. Edwarda Konkola ze Zgromadzenia Księży Werbistów (SVD). Ten wysoki mężczyzna o tubalnym głosie pozyskał sobie miano „księdza-instytucji”, a jego Stowarzyszenie – najbardziej rozpoznawalnej marki Podlasia. Wywiad-rzeka z ks. Konkolem oraz wspomnienia bliskich współpracowników Założyciela Stowarzyszenia stanowią „bazą danych” niniejszego tekstu – ale nie wyczerpują bogatej historii białostockiej instytucji. Na początku „drogi” było spotkanie ks. Edwarda z bezdomnym w warszawskim kanale, potem: białostockie meliny, detoks w pustostanie, Nasz Dom, Ośrodek ETAP, Dom Powrotu, Odbudowa Rodziny, Ośrodek w Jastarni. Z pomocą wiernych współpracowników ks. Konkol zainicjował wieloaspektowy program pomocy terapeutyczno-duchowej bezdomnym, uzależnionym oraz dzieciom z ubogich rodzin. Dnia 12 grudnia minęła pierwsza rocznica śmierci ks. Edwarda Konkola – jego opus vitæ trwa.
