The purpose of this article is a preliminary analysis of the particular source from the archive of the Gniezno tabularium, that is, a register of correspondence, paying special attention to broadly understood music and the contacts of the Archive with musicians, musicologists and music enthusiasts throughout 60 years of its existence, beginning from 1960. The first director of the Archive was Rev. Władysław Zientarski, a great music lover. He took care of the collection of musical items in the Gniezno Archive, which were inherited from the Archive of the Primate’s Chapter. The musical collection was also attended to by Zientarki’s successors: Rev. Marian Aleksandrowicz and Rev. Michał Sołomieniuk, as well as other archive employees, including Jadwiga Rył. The music collections in Gniezno were described by Danuta Idaszak. The article was based on a register of correspondence from the years 1950-2010. The substantive part consists of tables, the content of which was grouped according to the type of correspondence: (1) musical items and other musical documents which are currently in the archive, (2) users’ musical requests concerning musical items stored in the archive, (3) invitations to concerts and conferences, offers to purchase new publications and requests to complete statistical questionnaires and (4) information on visitors to the archive. Each table is accompanied by a short note about its content. The aim of this article is to enable modern researchers to make an initial assessment and to receive information on the Archive’s activities relating to music and music items and the usefulness of the material for their research.
