Dyskurs religijny 2. połowy XIX w. prowadzony przez polski Kościół katolicki różnił się w swoich aspektach poznawczych od dyskursu, jaki rozwinął się wiek później po II Soborze Watykańskim. O jego cechach decydowało wiele czynników kontekstowych, związanych między innymi z rozwojem doktryny religijnej. Jednym z istotnych aspektów poznawczych tego dyskursu, przejawiającego się w tekstach kaznodziejskich, które stały się w niniejszym artykule obiektem badawczym, jest relacja My – Inni służąca w dużej mierze konstruowaniu wspólnotowej tożsamości. Inny kategoryzowany jest przed wszystkim na podstawie kryterium wyznaniowego, w dalszej kolejności etnicznego. W pracy przedstawia się wyodrębniane w kazaniach kategorie Innych wraz z przyporządkowanym do nich sposobem ich postrzegania z punktu widzenia wspólnoty katolickiej. W dalszej części omówiona została relacja między katolikami a protestantami na podstawie językowo-tekstowych sposobów jej kształtowania. Mechanizmy wartościowania uświadamiają, że w kazaniach dochodzi do zmiany w językowym obrazie protestantów, co jest konsekwencją osłabiania strategii negatywnej waloryzacji tej społeczności. Wyjściowy dla tego okresu profil protestanta jako złego chrześcijanina ulega przekształceniu w profil gorszego, błądzącego chrześcijanina, którego zgodnie z założeniami ówczesnego ekumenizmu należy przywrócić na łono Kościoła katolickiego. Ten aspekt relacji międzyreligijnych ujęty jest w pracy w perspektywie kategorii dialogu. Istotnym elementem pracy jest wskazanie na różnice regionalne w podejściu do Innych (niekatolików) w różnych regionach dawnej Polski, znajdującej się w XIX w. pod zaborami.

The religious discourse of the latter half of the 19th century conducted by the Polish Catholic Church differed in its cognitive aspects from the discourse which developed a century later after the Second Vatican Council. Many contextual factors, related, among others, to the development of a religious doctrine, determined its features. One of the most prominent cognitive aspects of this discourse, present in the sermons which have served as an object for research, is the We and the Other relation meant largely for building a community’s identity. The Other is categorized, primarily, under the criterion of faith and, secondarily, under the criterion of ethnicity. The dissertation shows, distinguished in sermons, categories of the Other together with assigned to them way to perceive them from the point of view of a Catholic community. What is discussed further is the relation between Catholics and Protestants based on the linguistic and textual forms of its creation. The evaluation mechanisms make us realize that in the sermons there is a change in the linguistic image of Protestants which is a consequence of weakening of the strategy to evaluate this community negatively. The initial, of that period, profile of a Protestant viewed as a bad Christian is transformed into a profile of a worse, lost Christian who, in line with the principles of modern ecumenism, should be brought back to the bosom of the Catholic Church. This aspect of inter-religious relations is captured in the dissertation from the perspective of dialogue. The major part of the dissertation focuses on identifying regional differences in attitude towards the Other (non-Catholics) in different regions of former Poland under partitioners’ rule in the 19th century.
