Artykuł ma na celu przedstawienie problemu funkcjonowania bibliotek w różnych kulturach w oparciu o teorie wymiarów kultury. Przedstawiona została definicja wymiarów kultury i przykłady teorii wymiarów kultury, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem najnowszej postaci teorii wymiarów kultury zaproponowanej przez Geerta Hofstedego. Omówione zostały również pewne aspekty funkcjonowania i organizacji przestrzennej bibliotek w świetle różnic kulturowych związanych z wymiarami kultury. Na koniec zaprezentowano wyniki badań przeprowadzonych wśród studentów Zakładu INiB Uniwersytetu w Białymstoku.

The aim of this article is to discuss the issue of libraries functioning in the environment of cultural diversity based on cultural dimensions theory. This includes the definition of cultural dimensions and examples of cultural dimensions theory and emphasizes the latest form of cultural dimensions theory proposed by Geert Hofstede. This article describes some aspects of functioning and organising the spatial dimention of libraries in the light of cultural diversity environment linked to cultural dimensions. Finally the research results obtained from students of INiB Department of Białystok University are presented.
