Na efektywność działania każdej biblioteki olbrzymi wpływ wywiera osobowość kierownika i jego styl kierowania (zarządzania, przywództwa). Przez styl kierowania rozumiemy formy, metody i techniki oddziaływania na podwładnych, zmierzające do realizacji postawionych przed instytucją zadań. Najistotniejszym elementem stylu kierowania jest sposób podejmowania decyzji przez kierownika i stopień włączenia pracowników w sprawy instytucji. Wybór stylu zarządzania zależy głównie od kierownika – jego doświadczenia, wiedzy i cech osobowościowych, ale jest uzależniony także od zespołu pracowniczego oraz czynników sytuacyjnych. W referacie dokonano przeglądu stylów kierowania, które mogą zostać wykorzystane w pracy bibliotek.

The effectiveness of each library depends on personality of the manager and his style of management (management, leadership). Through the management style we understand forms, methods and techniques of influence on subordinates, aiming to the accomplishment of the institution tasks. The most significant part of management style is the way of making decisions by the manager and the level of employees integration in the affairs of the institution. The choice of management style depends mainly on the manager - his experience, knowledge and personality traits but also on employees and situational factors. This paper reviews the management styles which can be used in the library work.
