Combining quantitative and qualitative research methods may be followed by the operationalization carried out at the level of study design, sample selection, data collection techniques and analysis. Studies using mixed methods are not a mix of scientific paradigms per se, but rather are a reflection of paradigms in the selection and combining techniques. Although the data collection techniques are inherently neutral, as are neutral methodologies, however, they lose their neutrality when interpreting the data collected with their help. The issue of triangulation methods of research in the sciences of education and other social sciences will not be resolved for a long time. Prospective chances of improving the methodology of the social sciences could be found not so much in the trials of mixing qualitative and quantitative approaches but in completed research plans using the term, the concept of combining complementary quantitative and qualitative methods.

Łączenie ilościowych i jakościowych metod badań może następować poprzez operacjonalizację dokonywaną na poziomie projektowania badań, doboru próbki, technik gromadzenia danych i ich analizy. Badania z zastosowaniem metod mieszanych nie są mieszanką paradygmatów naukowych per se, to raczej paradygmaty są odzwierciedleniem w doborze i sposobie łączenia technik. Jakkolwiek techniki gromadzenia danych są ze swej istoty neutralne, podobnie jak neutralne są metodologie, to jednak tracą one swą neutralność w momencie interpretacji danych zebranych przy ich pomocy. Kwestia triangulacji metod badań w naukach o wychowaniu i innych naukach społecznych jeszcze długo nie będzie rozstrzygnięta. Perspektywiczne szanse doskonalenia metodologii nauk społecznych można upatrywać nie tyle w próbach mieszania podejścia jakościowego i ilościowego, co w skompletowanych planach badawczych stosujących w perspektywie koncepcję komplementarnego łączenia metod ilościowych i jakościowych.
