In the article an attempt was made to show the trends of scarce professions formulation, which are a part of chosen big profession groups in the area of Upper Silesia Voivodeship. The basis for the beginning of the analysis was the identification of the professions which were of highest deficit rate in the analysed big groups in the first half of the year 2006. Then the data were compared with the first half of the year 2007 and with the same period of 2008. It was the basis to capture the change trends. The scarce professions were defined with the use of the methodology of the scarce professions and the surplus professions used in the public employment service.
