Sweden is currently the richest Scandinavian country and one of the most industrialised countries in the world. Moreover, the Swedish economy is among the world's most innovative and competitive economies. The success of the Swedish economy can be partly attributed to its openness to international trade and foreign direct investments. Other key factors include: (i) the internal economic strength, understood as intensity of business activity, (ii) the attractiveness of economic sectors from the point of view of prospective entrepreneurs, or (iii) government policy to enhance competitiveness. Finally, the condition of the domestic labour market is another important reason for the Swedish economic growth. The purpose of the article is to present the structure of the Swedish labour market and the domestic employment policy, as these two elements are not only the most crucial determinants of the labour market in this country, but also provide interesting material for research.
