Among investors- practitioners and researchers-theorists are more and more supporters of the theory that a better solution in times of crisis is to focus only on the investment risk. One of the trends in this theory is planning investments in such a way that the same value of risk is attributable to the individual instruments in portfolio. The application of this approach leads to the construction of equal risk portfolios called also risk parity portfolios. The article presents the general information about risk parity portfolios, which are the new term in the Polish literature. Measures needed to determine the risk parity portfolios was discussed in the first part of article. The next section presents selected methods used to determine these types of portfolios. The research showed that the standard deviation is the best criterion to selection of indexes to risk parity portfolios. Then we received portfolios with risk contribution similar to the equal risk contribution.
