The main goal of the paper is to identify level of financial literacy of consumers in selected countries of CEE and to identify determinants of this phenomenon. The study shows that in all countries surveyed, level of financial literacy is low. The level of financial knowledge depends primarily on consumer’s gender, level of education and professional experience. Consumers, comparing to the rest of society in their country believe, that their financial literacy is on far higher level. Reflection is the fact that financial literacy in the surveyed countries is perceived by consumers as boring and rather unnecessary.

Celem opracowania jest identyfikacja poziomu wiedzy finansowej konsumentów w wybranych krajach Europy Środkowo-Wschodniej oraz określenie determinant tego zjawiska. Przeprowadzone badania pokazują duże podobieństwa zarówno na rzeczywistym poziomie wiedzy finansowej konsumentów, jak i ich subiektywnym podejściu do tego rodzaju edukacji. We wszystkich badanych krajach poziom wiedzy finansowej zarówno obiektywny, jak i subiektywny jest niski. Poziom wiedzy finansowej zależy przede wszystkim od płci konsumenta, poziomu jego wykształcenia oraz doświadczenia zawodowego. Konsumenci, w porównaniu do reszty społeczeństwa w swoim kraju uważają, że ich wiedza finansowa jest na zdecydowanie wyższym poziomie. Refleksję budzi fakt, że wiedza finansowa w badanych krajach jest postrzegana przez konsumentów jako nudna i raczej niepotrzebna.
