Celem artykułu jest określenie prawdopodobnych zmian wartości przepływów bezpośrednich inwestycji zagranicznych (BIZ) między państwami członkowskimi Unii Europejskiej a Japonią, które mogą nastąpić wskutek wejścia w życie postanowień umowy o partnerstwie gospodarczym UE-Japonia (EPA). Przepływy BIZ pomiędzy UE i Japonią były dotychczas ważnym elementem wzajemnych stosunków gospodarczych. W artykule analizuje się stan należności i zobowiązań z tytułu BIZ w UE oraz Japonii. Wyniki badania wskazują, że umowa EPA może przyczynić się do wzrostu inwestycji państw UE w Japonii, a także zwiększyć zaangażowanie kapitałowe firm japońskich w tych krajach. Polskie firmy nie będą miały dużego znaczenia dla wzrostu ogólnej wartości BIZ pochodzących z UE w Japonii, ale istnieją warunki dla wzrostu polskich inwestycji na rynku japońskim.

The aim of the article is to determine the probable changes in the FDI flows between the member states of the European Union and Japan, which may occur as the result of the implementation of the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) between the EU and Japan. The FDI flows between the EU and Japan hitherto constituted an important element of the mutual economic relations. The article brings an analysis of the balance of mutual FDI flows between both areas. The results of the research suggest that the EPA may contribute to the increase in both the EU investments made in Japan and Japanese investments made in the EU member states. Polish investments in Japan will not represent a significant part of this increase, but there will be favorable conditions for their growth.
