The archival documents documenting the activities of the Church in medieval Poland do not hold separate libri formatarum, while original testimonies of ordained clergy are scarce. Copies of such testimonies were usually entered in the bishop‘s records or the consistory books of the respective dioceses. The research carried out in archives and libraries has resulted in identifying numerous litterae formatae of Polish clergy from the 15th and the first half of the 16th century, including testimonies of ordaining 29 clergymen from the Gniezno archdiocese. An analysis of their contents has confirmed some of the opinions in literature on the subject on ordaining Polish clergy in the late Middle Ages. As a result, corrections and additions have been made to the previous findings relating to the medieval calendar of clergy ordinations and their geographic distribution in the former archdiocese of Gniezno. The editing of these testimonies has shed new light on the prosopographical research into Polish clergy in the 15th – 16th centuries.
