The article presents selected social problems and tasks in which social workers in the world are involved. Their roles are not limited to granting benefits – an activity most often attributed to social workers in Poland – they consist of educating, overcoming taboos, initiating actions aimed at improving the functioning of individuals, groups and communities, and building and integrating them. The text is based on a review of selected presentations and posters presented during the Work, Education and Social Development Conference organized in Dublin in July 2018.
