The article addresses the problem of urban mass tourism in the context of its consequences, with emphasis on phenomena that have an adverse effect on the quality of life for local communities. The aspects of analysis described by the authors are an example of operationalizing the indicator-based approach to the assessment of mass urban tourism to identify its economic and social consequences for the cities of Poznań and Wrocław. Drawing on the analysis of statistical data and in-depth interviews with local tourism experts, the authors conclude that focus on tourism in urban management can contribute to positive economic effects, while the awareness of how tourism can affect various aspects of social life can help to create sustainable solutions.
