W artykule proponuję nową interpretację nazwy rzeki Świna jako dawnego złożenia opartego na pie. pierwiastkach *h1su- 'dobry' i *h1éi̯- 'iść, poruszać się' z rozszerzeniem sufiksalnym *-n-. Całość oznaczała *'dobre przejście' na morze lub *'dobra Ina'. Jeśli za rozszerzenie pierwiastka *h1éi̯- /*h1i- 'iść' uznać derywat *h1éi̯-sh2-/*h1i-sh2- 'pędzić', to do grupy hydronimów analogicznych można dodać nazwy rzek Issa, Isar, *Isonta i inne.

In the article I suggest a new interpretation of the name of the river Świna as an old compound of PIE roots *h1su- 'good ' and *h1ei̯- 'go, move' extended by suffix *-n-. The integrated whole meant: 'a good passage' on the sea or *'good Ina'. If the derivative *h1éi̯-sh2- / *h1i-sh2- 'rush' is considered to be an extension of h1éi̯-/ *h1i- 'go', the group of analogous hydronyms includes the names of the rivers Issa, Isar, *Isonta and others.
