This article is a contribution to the discussion on whether the suburban municipality is a place of identification for its citizens. The author presents the results of surveys carried out in the municipality of Piaseczno, which is a common destination of migration for Warsaw inhabitants. It turns out that the municipality, in which there are intense suburbanization processes is not the place for its citizens where they wish to build their own identity. This is not particularly surprising due to the specific nature of Piaseczno: proximity to the capital city, a significant percentage of the immigrant population, the internal diversity of the municipality, high spatial mobility, the specific lifestyle of new residents. Most of them choose a town / village of residence as a place of identification, but there are also those who feel strong ties with Warsaw. The municipality, which do not have strong ties with its citizens can not be treated as the local community, but only as a territorial collectivity. Unlike the municipality, the town / village of residence can be identified as a local community, especially because a greater satisfaction with living in the municipality is accompanied by a stronger identification with the town / village. The author of this article draws attention to the problems that result from the lack of strong ties with the municipality, and at the same time points to the possibilities of strengthening them.
