The aging population and labor force is an irreversible process, but it is possible to counteract the negative effects of it, by taking action on the socio-economic side. This paper considers possible responses to negative effects that demographic processes bring to rural areas. The aging of the rural society calls for better access to public social services, care and medical care services as well as education. Effects of aging on labor supply can be reduced by increasing the participation rate. It becomes urgent now because rural part of the labour force will not be able to compensate for its shrinking urban counterpart anymore in the near future. However, finding the way to increase the participation rate of rural population is a very difficult task this population is less mobile and less educated. So the solution requires flexible urban and rural labour markets, re-education and adaptation to new labour market conditions as well as support for work commuting. However, all the solutions will face the common problem - spatial isolation of rural areas and limited access to labour, commodity and services markets.
