O rigina l parts of the equipment and decor of the interiors of the Royal Castle, preserved from destruction, stored first in various store-rooms in Warsaw, a fter the war were put in order and preliminarily registered by the staff of the National Museum and of the Historic Museum of the City of Warsaw. All preserved parts of the decor of the in te riors were passed on to the Workshop fo r the Conservation of Works of Art (the PKDS) attached to the Ateliers for the Conservation of Cultural Property (the PKZ), Department fo r the Reconstruction of the Royal Castle as the main constructor of the decor of the interiors. Out of the to ta l number of 1,988 elements the following ones have been singled out: 431 parts of stucco works (architectonic and sculptor’s details), 1,370 elements of wood-carving work, frames, listels, 106 elements of wa in scot, wood and window woodwork and 73 details of p a in tings. The article gives a detailed description of individual groups of elements including th e ir identifica tion , location, structure, condition of individual layers, results of the studies, employed conservation procedure, models made and reconstruction. To make the information still more precise, the number of executed architectonic, sculptors’, wood-carving works and the quantity of golden foil used were also quoted. One of the subjects discussed in the article has been the entire work of the PKDS in executing the restitution of Castle’s interiors. Cooperation of individual teams of conservators, modellers, wood-carvers, carpenters and gilders has also been described. In the years 1973—1986 the work of the workshop was headed by the following specialists: M. Baranowski, T. Kubalski, M. Żołqdek, Zb. Majcerowicz and E. Kierzkowska- -Kalinowska. Altogether more than 200 workers were employed at th a t time. A ll of them contributed to a larger or smaller extent to the execution of the task. 45 names of those who distinguished themselves with exceptional a b ilities and involvement have been listed,
