Thе article is devoted to the issue of the formation, in contemporary Ukraine, of the new models of historical memory concerning the events of World War II. This is the result of the complex and controversial deconstruction of old historical myths, and the emergence in the popular consciousness of new historical myths. Special attention is devoted to the mutual influences of mass social consciousness, efforts by politicians to use this issue to gain public support, and research conducted by professional scholars-historians.
