Podstawowymi celami artykułu jest: 1) określenie dylematów związanych z definicją zaniedbania (w porównaniu z przemocą) oraz konsekwencji zaniedbania w krótszej i dłuższej perspektywie, jak również 2) analiza najnowszej literatury na temat osób z niepełnosprawnością jako ofiar zaniedbania, pokazująca różnice w rozpowszechnieniu zjawiska zaniedbania między populacją ogólną i osobami z niepełnosprawnością, a także przedstawienie powszechnych form zaniedbania fizycznego i emocjonalnego, którego doświadczają osoby z niepełnosprawnością. Literatura pokazuje, że zaniedbanie jest najpowszechniejszą formą niewłaściwego traktowania, a osoby niepełnosprawne są szczególnie zagrożone staniem się ofiarą zaniedbania. Wśród powszechnych form zaniedbania, których doświadczają, wymienić można zaniedbanie w zakresie: podstawowej opieki, zapewnienia bezpieczeństwa, ciepła emocjonalnego, stabilizacji, stymulacji, stawiania granic i kierowania. Podkreślono także społeczny kontekst zaniedbania i niepełnosprawności.

The main objectives of the article were to (1) delineate the dilemmas connected with the definition of neglect (compared to abuse) and the consequences of neglect in the short and long term as well as to (2) analyze the recent research on neglect of disabled people, showing the differences in the prevalence of neglect in the general population and in the disabled persons, and presenting common forms of physical and emotional neglect of the disabled . The literature on the subject shows that neglect is the most common form of maltreatment and the disabled are especially at risk of neglect. The common forms of their neglect include: neglect in basic care, ensuring safety, emotional warmth, stability, stimulation, setting boundaries and guidance. The social context of neglect and disability is also emphasized.
