Das dargestellte Skelett, das auf dem frühmittelalterlichen, auf 11.-14. Jh. datierten Gräberfeld auf Ostrów Lednicki freigelegt wurde, gehörte zu einer Frau im Alter von ca. 25 - 30 Jahre. Die Länge des Skeletts in situ betrug 208 cm und nach Trotter, Gleser 215,5 cm. Die Knochen sind massiv, besonders der Schädel. Auf vielen Knochen, insbesondere in der Nähe des Schädels und der Wirbelsäule sind krankhafte, für den Gigantismus und Agromegalie charakteristische Veränderungen ersichtlich. Der Gigantismus ist eine ernste Krankheit, deren Zeichen nicht nur der übermäßige Wachstum, sondern auch Störungen in anderen Systemen, z.B. im Atmungs-, Nerven- oder Gefäßsystem sind. Diese Krankheit ist ein Erfolg der vermehrten Sekretion des somatotropen Hypophysenhormons, was meistens das sich in der Kindheit entwickelnde eosinophile Hypophysenadenom verursacht. Die Akromegalie tritt dagegen im erwachsenen Alter auch infolge der krankhaften Veränderungen der Hirnanhangdrüse auf. Die Änderungen im linken Felsenbein sowie im linken Teil des seitlichen Hinterhauptsbeins bewirkten die Hörstörungen und, vielleicht, eine Erschwerung beim Abfluß des Blutes aus der Schädelhöhle sowie die Störungen im Bereich der Innervation von drei Schädelnerven: IX, X, XI. Neben der ausführlichen Beschreibung und Messungen des Skeletts wurde auch ein kurzer Überblick der bisher beschriebenen Gigantismusfälle dargestellt.
