After the end of World War II, Japan as a country defeated in that conflict, came under allied forces occupation. Even though nearly 70 years has passed, today Japanese foreign policy and diplomacy towards neighbouring countries is still problematic due to painful episodes from the past and atrocities done by Imperial Japanese Army. In this article, author would like to prove his thesis statement that comfort women issue and interpretation of their role, influenced behaviour of succeeding Japanese political elites, to a level in which past precludes developing a proper relationship with South Korea. It has been confirmed especially In statements that were issued by Japanese government representatives, treated as insufficient and insincere by the opposite side. Problem might be lying also in controversial comments made by politicians visible in media and in certain attempts to discredit the existence of sexual slavery spread among nationalistic groups.
