Głównym celem artykułu jest wskazanie amerykańskiego rynku odwróconego kredytu hipotecznego jako najstarszego rynku tego produktu na świecie oraz próba określenia przyczyn oraz czynników jego rozwoju w Stanach Zjednoczonych. Autorka charakteryzuje odwrócony kredyt hipoteczny oraz przedstawia główne typy tego produktu na amerykańskim rynku finansowym. Dominującą tam formą odwróconego kredytu hipotecznego jest wersja rządowego programu funkcjonująca pod akronimem HECM.

The main goal of this article is to present the American reverse mortgage market as the oldest world market of this financial product. Moreover, it attempts to identify the reasons and factors determining its development in the United States. The Author characterizes reverse mortgage and presents the main types of this product on American financial market. The version of government programme functioning under acronym HECM is the predominant form of reverse mortgage there.
