The Poznań parish church is one o f the most splendid churches in Poland. The topic o f this study is the construction o f the rafter framing over the main nave, presbytery and transept. There are two important reasons for dealing with this problem. The first is the unsatisfactory technical state o f the construction which in many places can lead to a serious threat. The second reason are the merits o f the roof construction, worthy o f presentation as a unique engineering work from the turn o f the seventeenth century. The article discusses the roof construction and assesses its technical state, as well as the causes and range o f damage; it also forms recommendations for the revalorization o f the construction. The presented material comprises a fragment o f a project for the revalorization o f the construction, prepared by the author at the request o f the Voivodeship Conservator of Historical Monuments in Poznan. Note. The first stage o f repairing the roof took place from December to N ovember 1996, during the preparation o f this article for publication. The most endangered construction of the right arm o f transept was subject to revalorization. Construction- conservation work was performed and the hazards in this part o f the roof were liguidated. The work was conducted upon the basis o f a project, and under the surveillance o f the author, by a specialized construction enterprise belonging to Paweł Dembiński.
