Dzięki szwedzkim badaniom długookresowym można było po raz pierwszy jednoznacznie udokumentować wpływ samobójstwa jednego z rodziców na dzieci. W późniejszym życiu dzieci te znacznie częściej przejawiają skłonność do samobójstwa i dotknięte są zaburzeniami psychicznymi. Z reguły też nie otrzymują specjalistycznego wsparcia, by móc przepracować traumę. Tę ważną funkcję pedagogiczną mogłaby podjąć szkoła.

Thanks to Swedish longitudinal research, for the first time one can clearly document the impact of suicide of one of the parents on their children. In later life these children are more likely to exhibit suicidal tendencies and display mental disorders. Commonly they are not receiving specialist support to enable them to work through the trauma experienced. This important pedagogical function could be taken over by the school.
