The article comprises the results of the sociological study conducted in the academic year 2005/2006 among first-year students of physical education and physiotherapy. The autobiographical method was applied to the study; 211 statements were collected. The main purpose of the research was to establish, how the students perceive their future professional roles. Przysz³e role zawodowe w opiniach studentów wroc³awskiej Akademii Wychowania 150 On the basis of the conducted analysis of the autobiographical data it was stated, that most of the students come from large and medium-sized cities. The process of recruitment revealed explicit regional influence of the (discussed) Wroclaw Academy. Students of both specializations varied as to the factors that affected their choices. Physical education students presented mainly professional and sporting orientation. On the contrary, among those who chose physiotherapy, altruistic and professional motivation was more common. Every second of the questioned students intends to selfrealize himself/herself in the difficult role of a physical education teacher. Poll respondees are aware of the new chances, which emerged in our country as a result of market economy and of the accession to the EU; at the same time, physiotherapy students more frequently than their colleagues are willing to start their own business.
