The c lo ister of C a rm e lite s th e Discalceates a t Nowy Wiśnicz w a s fo unded as a v o te fo r th e v ic to ry o v e r th e T u rk s a t th e b a ttle of Chocim in 1621. S ta n is ław Lu b o mirski, ap p o in ted chief c u p b e a re r, com m a n d e r-in -c h ie f a fte r a su d d en d e a th of th e H e tm an , vowed th a t if he won th e b a ttle he would e re c t in his Wiśnicz a c h u rch w ith a cloister. The design of C a rm e lite s ’ c lo iste r was d raw n by Maciej T rap o la , an I ta lia n a rc h ite c t. In 1782 th e c loister was a b ro g a ted by th e A u s tria n s w h o firs t tra n s fo rm e d it into th e s e a t of th e c o u rt of ju s tic e and th e n into a prison. At p re s e n t th e b u ild in g still fu n c tio n s as a prison. A n um b e r of household b u ild in g s w e re a d ded. some of which u n fo r tu n a te ly w e re s itu a te d w ith in fo rtific a tio n s. In th e e a s te rn fro n t, w h en e re c tin g a la r ge fa rm b u ild in g a t th e end of th e la s t c en tu rv , n e a rly h a lf of th e length of th e fro n t of th e fo rtific a tio n s w as nulled down to th e ground level. In th e c lo iste r itself, somp of th e rooms, ceilings, wo o dwo rk an d roofs w e re reb u ilt. In 1940—1942 th e G e rm an s p u lled down in a b a rb a ria n way th e p o st-C a rm e lite ch u rch , p lu n d e red by th e A u strian s a lre a d y in th e 18th c en tu ry . The only p re s e rv ed p a r t a re th e w a lls u p to 12 m of h e ig h t an d some stonework. The p ro te c tio n of th e p re s e rv e d histo ric s tru c tu r e of th e walls an d d eco ratio n s in th e in te rio rs sh o u ld be done as soon as possible. The n e x t step w ill be a g r a d ual e lim in a tio n of 19th- an d 2 0 th -c en tu ry -b u ild in g s, r e co n stru c tio n of demolished p a rts of d efen siv e w a lls an d re co n s tru c tio n of th e church. A fte r changing its fu n c tio n th e cloister b u ild in g w ill become a to u r is t hotel, w hich is lin k ed w ith a fu tu re fu n c tio n of th e castle an d a to u ristic p ro g ram m e e n v isaged in th is a re a . The re b u ilt c h u rch a n d th e e a s te rn p a r t of c a sem a te s w ill p e rfo rm fu n c tio n s of th e museum. Th e w e s te rn p a r t of th e fo rtific a tio n buildings an d c a sem a te s w ill p rovide a c a te rin g base fo r th e hotel. H av in g in min d a rich ico nography a n d th e p re s e rv ed relics of th e d e corations, re co n s tru c tio n of th e ch u rch is ju s t a must.
