The state border is a barrier that protects primarily from the external threats that affect the state's security in the political, military, economic, sociocultural, religious, ecological, and other spheres. The anticipation of probable threats should be understood as their timely and proper identification, which will enable the authorities responsible for state security to react. What is more, taking action will allow preventing or mitigating the effects of hostile activities. Nowadays, the assessment of the multidimensional nature of state threats indicates their hybrid nature. Therefore, it is necessary to bear in mind that the identification of a potential adversary and its modes of operation must be related to achieving actual utilitarian goals, the consequence of which should be the revision of plans in the national security system. The proposed changes may concern the possibility of using the newly created Fifth Armed Forces of the Republic of Poland, namely the Territorial Defence Forces, which can unleash real potential for border protection, especially in states of readiness other than peace.
