The aim of this paper is to analyze the phenomenon of political correctness in the contrastive Polish–German perspective. Inability to translate or compare different lexemes is usually caused by the factors of cultural, social, pragmatic and non linguistic character. To a great degree it depends on the similarity of the systems. The ability of choice from the lexical units is connected with the unique character of morphology and syntax of the languages. Translation and cross-cultural communication are called in some approaches "the transfer of cultures". Unfortunately, in such statements linguistic problems are usually ignored, even though they are vital for a substantial discussion. The awareness of such generalization obliges to analyze the differences between the languages and to determine their causes. Attempts to transfer such phenomena into another language do not necessarily mean overcoming all the barriers of the languages. It is possible to use other adequate linguistic means and structures – both analytical and synthetic. The article discusses factors that influence the realization of equivalence of Polish and German feminine personal names in the context of political correctness.
