Due to the demographic situation that has been changing fast, and due to the problems of aged persons that have become the focus of interest of many institutions, NIK conducted an audit aimed at evaluating the functioning of medical care for aged persons. The audit examined, among others, how the Minister of Health developed health policy in the area of healthcare for aged persons, how staff was trained to implement this policy, and cooperation with other entities in the field of care for seniors. At the National Health Fund (Polish: Narodowy Fundusz Zdrowia, NFZ), NIK examined the valuation, planning and financing of services addressed to aged persons, as well as access to these services. While at the entities that provide services, NIK audited how the services were organised, whether contracts with the NFZ were realised properly, and cooperation with other entities from the healthcare and welfare system. The audit comprised fourteen various entities altogether.
