The article discusses contemporary linguistic situation of rural areas especially in south of Poland. The country undergoes a lot of economic, social and cultural transformations such as new way of working on the farm, changing in the education and employment structure, the impact of global culture. These changes have a huge influence on the rural speech, which now is better to define the language of villagers instead of a traditional dialect. There is a need to change the methodological orientation of the modern dialectology. The traditional methods of description dialectal language shall be combined with other disciplines like sociology, psychology, ethnology and with new approach to dialects viewed through civilization and cultural changes. However, the most important task is to document the current rural speech in the form of the electronic database.
